Version 1.2.5 is now available:
- Compass map should now be correct in any part of the world.
- Fixed issue with internet connection (upload timeout) on some phones.
- When a newer version is available after a successful upload, SportyPal now reports
that the upload was successful *and* that a newer version is available (instead of only reporting
that a newer version is available). The workout is also marked as uploaded and subsequent
attempts to upload it will display a re-upload confirmation.
- Fixed the negative altitude bug.
- Loading an old workout is now around 10 times faster (could be even faster on some devices).
This means that uploading an old workout, displaying the speed graph, downloading the google map etc
will also be ~10 times faster.

Version v1.2.4 is now available
- SportyPal should now be able to acquire a GPS signal on BlackBerry Tour and Storm for Verizon users

Version 1.2.3 has been released
- The app is now signed. This version should eliminate two issues:
1) The registration and uploads used to only work on phones with a wifi connection. It should now work on all phones and any kind of internet connection (wifi/carrier/BES etc).
2) We're hoping that the "GPS Not Allowed" error will be now gone - at least on phones where other 3rd party apps can use GPS. In case its not, please see the official "gps not allowed" thread
- The app now supports http redirection - this should allow it to work with proxies used by some carriers.

Version 1.2.2 has been released.
- Fixed overlapping date text on Workout list, Records and Records list screens.
- Fixed the issue of the main screen appearing instead of the last active screen when resuming SportyPal.
- Fixed the wrong distance and speed (miles / mph) reported on the website while using Imperial system.
- Fixed some rare cases where wrong workout start time was reported on the website
- The workout list's sort menu is now accessible on touchscreen phones.
- Blackberry phones without a touchscreen do not have the bottom button-bar now. This makes the appearance similar to v1.1

Version 1.2.1 has been released.

Changes in this version:
- SportyPal always displays distance in miles instead of Yards now,
- Fixed inappropriate menu items. This should make the Back button work normally.
- Uploading and registering should be much faster now.
- More accurate error messages

A new update of SportyPal for BlackBerry (version 1.2) is now available.

Changes in this version:
- Added all the new workout types as they appear on the website, accessible from the FreeStyle type.
- Added support for all screen resolutions.
- Added support for phones with touchscreen, which should include Blackberry Storm 9530
- Added support for automatic screen rotation where available
- Uses new upload and register API that should fix most workout upload and registering issues,
- Upload should now work correctly via mobile network on devices that have no WiFi,
- SportyPal will attempt to get a GPS fix forever or until you choose back from the menu (or press on Back on devices with a touch screen)
- SportyPal will now tell you if a new version is available when you upload a workout,
- Faster “current workout” screen redrawing especially the transition to the map view.

Please let us know if the new version enables you to upload workouts without using a WiFi connection. If you have any issues, please report them on the blackberry support forum

I'm using a BlackBerry Bold 9700
I found some "bugs":
- When I go to "My Workouts" I get the message "No workouts!". This is correct, but the back button is above the red key. This key is to return to the home screen of the phone. Also, the normal go back button doesn't work here (the arrow)
- When I go to "My Profile" I have to fill in my details again (I upgraded from 1.1) and there is no login button. So I press register (with the same e-mail and password as registered) and then I get the message: IO error: Could not connect to the internet (yes, I rebooted my mobile after the upgrade). When I enable wifi I get a web error message (because I'm already registered?)

I'm new here but version 1.1 just looked sweet (installed it 2 weeks ago, wanted to test it tomorrow) I saw the update so decided to give it a go, but 1.1 worked better then 1.2 for me.. Sorry!

Which web error message did you get?

If the account exists the server will automatically log you in - unless your password was incorrect.

If you got the message:
"Error in web request:
Registration failed, please try again"

its very likely that the password you entered was incorrect.

The menus will be fixed in the next upgrade.

When I begin a new workout i says I am moving between 2.5 - 0 mph while I am sitting still. Does not matter what kind of workout it is.

That's an inherent GPS flaw, it's not a bug in SportyPal. GPS works best when you're moving.

If you really need something quick Ryan, try using Blackstar. It'll export to gpx format, which you can upload to Sportypal. I just tried it this morning and it worked great.

As for the new version, I'm going to download it now and try it on my lunch break when I walk.

Thank you!!!!

Ok, I tried it and I noticed 2 things:

1) it took FOREVER to load. Sportypal never took that long to start up, but I'm going to assume that it's now using the GPRS/EDGE network, and there must be some network initialization code there.

2) It dropped out of the workout about halfway through. It still saved it, AND I was able to upload it, so that's a bonus. There were no errors on the screen, it was simply at the opening screen with 'New Workout' selected. I'm going to try again to make sure I didn't bump something.

For now, I'm going to use another GPS app to record my actual workouts, and test 1.2.1 in the evenings, so I can at least get some workouts uploaded.

Keep up the great work guys. This thing is awesome ... ;)

Found a few bugs/problems with the new version on the Blackberry...

Stopping Workouts.
There are two methods for this, the first is the new pressing the (end call) button under the "stop" text, this doesnt ask if you're sure, it just ends workout and also closes sportypal. This makes it incredibly easy to end a workout by accident.
The second is the old method of pressing the blackberry button, choosing stop, then it asks if youre sure, you select yes and workout appears to end, however the workout continues running in the background and is near unstoppable, even exiting sportypal, turning off the blackberry doesnt stop it clocking up and tracking and seems to require a hard reset (battery removal).
Both these workouts were "stopped" but continued to clock up and track, while draining the battery heavily: http://www.sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/160766 http://www.sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/160731
Everytime you viewed the workout in "my workouts" the time, calories, distance had clocked up a little more, with no way to actually stop it aside from rebooting the phone.

My Workouts
The "upload" button is also the green phonecall button, when pressed quits sportypal and goes to make a phone call.
The "delete" button is also the red hangup/power button, which doesnt ask for confirmation, closes sportypal when pressed but doesnt delete the workout anyway.
Both buttons functionality appears to work correctly via the old blackberry button->upload/delete.

Initialising Workout
The "back" button is the red power button again, and as before quits the application as well as initialising. Both BB button->back and the back button on the phone already go "back" fine, not sure why the need for a 3rd method. Previously you could press the red button (now back), and navigate the phone, check gps options etc, now that also ends initialising. Generally, the 2 buttons used green/red seem to clash with other generic blackberry functions and there are probably other instances of it.

Text Alignment
Text alignment is off on a number of screens, during a workout, the distance and the total time overlap to the point of being unreadable.

This is on the Blackberry Bold 9000, but i think is mostly phone independant. Love the application btw, just some of these problems are making it a bit tricky to use in this version :)

+1 on all the bugs mentioned. I also tried to do intervals and it just ended my runs. (pressing space bar) I also got a stuck numner on the 4th min after pressing the space bar. I'm looking to get the older version now since it worked out superbly before.

In addition to the previously mentioned bugs... When i complete a new workout, it seems to update some of the latest workouts with the date of the newest on my phone.

For example..
-Original run: http://www.sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/165994
-This is the exact same run, uploaded again with a different date (to demonstrate the bug): http://www.sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/171046

The original upload is fine, but on my blackberry the date keeps updating 2 of the previous runs everytime i do a new run. Also the time (part of the date field) updates with the *approx* time of the new run - although strangely not exactly the same! ie. Both runs i linked say 1st March 21:40, but its clear the bugged one was ~15:00 as you can see from it's start/finish time.

Version 1.1 is still available at http://sportypal.com/Dow...kberry1.1/SportyPal.jad

However, downgrading is not supported because of incompatible extra data - the only way to install v1.1 is to remove v1.2.1 first (and then install v1.1). Note that 1.1 has absolutely no touch screen support and it only supports one resolution: 480x320.

The two new buttons available on every screen are only there for blackberries with a touch screen. Since we're unable to detect if a device has a touch screen or not, the buttons are shown by default, but they have no functionality on phones without a touch screen. You should instead use the menu button, the back button and the trackball for navigation.

We're working on the text overlapping issues which appeared after we made the app independent from screen resolution. An update which corrects them should be available soon.

-This is the exact same run, uploaded again with a different date (to demonstrate the bug): http://www.sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/171046

This issue is very strange - we are unable to reproduce it in any way. We have a *possible* fix but we have no way to make sure it works until we're able to reproduce the issue. It would be very helpful if you could describe your actions in more detail so that we could attempt to reproduce them here. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the reply, have done a little testing.

Stopping workouts was a problem initially where the workout kept clocking up until a new workout was initialised. As a work around to this, i would stop workout by quitting sportypal with the red hangup key (i thought was stop anyway), then immediately start initialising gps for a new workout. Having just tried the proper method - trackball, stop, yes. It appears this stops the workout properly now and also avoids the date/time problem i noted.
I would guess that by stopping the workout with the red button, the workout wasn't ended correctly and for future workouts when date/time is assigned to current workout, it marks that one too as it is still considered current? Are you able to remotely update sportypal? I'm sure the stop workout page looks different now to a week ago (still on 1.2.1), it was black on white, now its the sportypal standard white on blue and the stop functionality is now working for me?

The text overlap appears to happen everytime if don't exit sportypal between workouts, it usually shows time flicking between 00:00 and (i think) the last workouts time. Exiting sportypal properly and relaunching it so you see the splash screen appears to correct this issue and the distance/time alignment is fine.

Both of these problems, most of the confusion i had with the touchscreen buttons stems from the current functionality of the red/hangup button. In 1.2? (the previous version), pressing this would close ( think minimise) sportypal, allowing you to use other phone features and then running sportypal would go back to where you left off, be it middle of workout or initialising gps. Now if you press this during initialising gps or during a workout, then when you run sportypal again, it picks up at the spinning menu and you cant get back to your workout or have to start initialising again. Also if you accidentally hit the red button during a workout it closes without warning, theres no way to get back to it or end it properly, so it bugs. Its a minor change, but is there any chance we could have the previous version red button functionality back?

Thanks :)

Yes, we will correct this in v1.2.2 (running SportyPal again will take you back to wherever you left it at).

We will also attempt to avoid the confusion with the buttons (hopefully by detecting whether a touch screen is present)

Upgraded to 1.2.1 tonight and lost workouts in the BB. Reset BB and tried registering from BB. Still no workouts, but I can still see them on the website. I have a Bold 9000.

Needs some help guys. At first sportypal would record my entire run. Now it randomly stops recording in the middle of my runs. At first I thought I may have accidentally stopped it but today I made sure to put my berry in my chest pockets and sportypal again stopped recording in the middle of my run. Any suggestions?

What are the symptoms? does the screen acknowledge that it has stopped recording or has the current workout kind of disappeared from your screen and shows up in My Workouts? if the latter, then it is likely still logging that workout. that happens for me when my phone's security locks up my phone after xx minutes.

See comments above regarding this scenario & workarounds.

I have a Bold 9000 and just upgraded to to newest version 1.2.1. As stated all my previous workouts were erased, that is not the problem, now I cannot register my phone, I put in the password and then nothing can be done from that screen. Now I cannot dowload my latest workouts to the website. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Kevin,

In the password screen, does the menu key (or alternatively the trackball button) activate a menu which contains the item "Finish"?
